What are the pre-requisites for the course?


1. Age: You must be 18 years of age to commence your training with Australian National Airline College.

2. Education - there is no minimum education required by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for a person to train as a pilot, however we would expect that our students have a reasonable standard of education. You should also note that to be issued a Student Visa, the Australian Embassy will normally require an education level of at least Year 10 or equivalent (Year 10 in Australia is the fourth year of High School).

    Please note: Educational requirements are more relevant when it comes to your potential employer (the Airlines). We suggest you contact those airlines you are interested in working for and ask them about their requirements.

3. You must pass an aviation medical examination.

4. You must be prepared to undergo a Federal Police check for your Aviation Security Identity Card

5.· English Language requirement for direct entry to Australian National Airline College.

For direct entry to Australian National Airline College you MUST meet our minimum English Language requirement.

The English Language requirement that applies to you depends upon your “Country Assessment Level”.

If you don’t have access to this document, contact us and we will advise you of your Assessment Level

A)     If you are from an Assessment Level 3, 4 or 5 country (as per Department of Immigration guidelines) you MUST undertake an IELTS test and score a minimum overall test score of 5.5 (with no test score less than 5.0). Either the “General” or “Academic” IELTS tests are acceptable.

 

      B)     If you are from an Assessment Level 1 or 2 Country, the following English Language requirements apply to you:

In accordance with CASA regulations we need to be satisfied that you meet one of the specified criteria listed below, by showing us a suitable document that gives evidence that you have met one of the following requirements:

i. The applicant has undertaken or completed his/her secondary education in an Australian or New Zealand educational institution, or the equivalent of an Australian secondary education in a country where one of the principal mediums of instruction had been in English

Therefore, if you completed Secondary School (and can provide us with a copy of your High School Certificate) AND if your school used English as one of the principal mediums of instruction (at least 50% of instruction in English) AND you can provide a letter from the school confirming this, you meet the requirement.

The applicant is still receiving secondary education in Australia or New Zealand where the language of instruction at the school is English.

 

OR

ii.     The applicant has spent at least three in the past five years of employment in Australia, New Zealand or a specified country (UK, USA, Republic of Ireland, Canada*), where the documented evidence may include a group certificate, a number of pay slips or a letter from your employer stating the period that you worked in that workplace

* For Canada, proof of English language proficiency may still be required

OR

iii. The applicant meets or exceeds one of the General English Test criteria specified in Civil Aviation Order (CAO) 40.0, Appendix 3. Documented evidence will be a hard copy of your test scores. These are provided from the General English testing centre after you have completed the test.

If you are required to undertake an English test, we will need you to have one of the following minimum test scores:

a. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Overall minimum test score 5.5 with no band less than 5.0 (Test    Bands include Listening, Speaking, Reading & Writing)

        b. TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign language) Paper based minimum test score 530

        c. TOEFL Internet based minimum test score 71

        d. TOEFL Computer based minimum test score 197

        e. TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) Minimum test scores: Listening 350.            Reading 300. Speaking: 160.   Writing 140

Note: For students who do not meet the required standard of English or who wish to develop their English skills, a number of courses are available that can be taken prior to the pilot courses. Our associate English College can conduct an English test which will indicate the length and type of course you require. Based on the information from this test we can quote you a cost for an appropriate course.
